Someone that is willing to learn and build capacity in teaching and or learn to build capacity in teaching computer science to high school students.
COMPUTER SCIENCE TEACHERS hold primary responsibility for the success of its students.
Therefore, we are seeking a teacher who is committed to continuously improving curriculum and instruction through collaboration as part of a grade level team.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
• Implement curricula and activities to meet academic standards;
• Implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standards;
• Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices;
• Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions;
• Provide consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behavior;
• Be accountable for students’ mastery of academic standards;
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues; and
• Participate in an annual professional development and training.
Qualifications
• Drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of the classroom;
• Proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom;
• Mastery of and enthusiasm for academic subjects;
• Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player;
• Valid State Certification is helpful but not required.
Belief in and alignment with Nebula Academy core beliefs and educational philosophy is non-negotiable.
ABOUT THE DESIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING & MINDSET:
• A BA/BS degree, in applicable subject; Master’s degree is preferable
• High GPA in an academic major, is preferable
• Valid New York State Teaching Certification, preferably in the applicable subject area
• 3 years minimum of teaching experience in diverse and urban areas, is preferable
• Commitment to Nebula Academy’s mission and academic objectives: that all students, regardless of background and incoming ability, can achieve at high levels
• Record of using data in the classroom to drive student outcomes; commitment to frequent formative assessment and student accountability
• Demonstrated belief in a structured, predictable and safe environment for children
• Willingness to build relationships with students, families and other school members
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
• Willingness to absorb feedback and engage in self-improvement; ability to reflect and adjust
• Other duties, based on the needs of the school and its scholars
• Whenever possible, Nebula Academy seeks to hire Teachers certified in special education and/or teaching English to speakers of other languages, in addition to the subject they teach, to provide additional support to students with special needs and/or limited English proficiency.
