Project Manager Project managers serve as the primary point of contact between IT and businesses.
They work with people at all levels and in virtually all departments within these businesses.
Project managers work with senior management to understand strategic requirements, conduct research, suggest ways that IT can help achieve their goals, and then manage projects to implement those solutions.
Responsibilities: Communicate with Business Managers Review project requests.
Provide status updates for projects in progress.
Research Potential Business Solutions Determine how IT can be used to attain business objectives.
Draft functional specifications that users can review/approve.
Provide time estimates for proposed solutions.
Coordinate Projects Work with developers and conduct testing to ensure applications are developed according to project specifications.
Ensure that changes meet the requirements for internal standards.
Ensure that required documentation is prepared, approved, and filed.
Work with business managers to assist with testing and get the necessary approvals.
Provide Production Support Research and resolve production issues that arise.
Project managers work closely with individuals at all levels of business.
Their experience and business knowledge puts them in a unique position to “see the big picture” and help provide effective solutions to business requirements.
Strong oral and written communication skills are a must.
Strong interpersonal skills are key.
Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
The project manager must be able to coordinate not only several projects at once, but also projects that involve several businesses.
Must be able to measure and report progress to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
Must have a solid understanding of standard business functions and how the ERP software is being used.
This includes A/R, A/P, G/L, Inventory, Purchasing, Customer Order Processing, Warehouse Management, as well as others.
Technical Skills Project managers draft detailed functional specifications for the developers as well as review and test modifications made by the developers.
The project manager should have a good working knowledge of the RPG programming language and the IBM i operating system.
The ERP software and the reporting tools used by the team make heavy use of SQL.
Therefore, proficiency with SQL is highly desirable.
Education Bachelor of Science and/or equivalent experience in Information Technology.
Experience 5 years of development experience.
5 years of project management experience.
