Premised on a constructivist approach to teaching and learning, faculty in the Education Studies Department prepare students for initial certification in New York State, grades 1-6.

In addition, the Department’s on-campus lab school, the Early Childhood Center, provides a resource for teaching and research.

Preferred qualifications for this position include a strong commitment to social justice, teaching experience at the college and/or elementary school level, a robust commitment to undergraduate teacher education within a liberal arts context, and the experience or ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.

Skidmore is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching and/or service.

The teaching load for this position is 5 courses each academic year.

Courses taught would include topics related to child development, the exceptional child in the elementary school, and assessment for the exceptional child.

Minimum Qualifications ABD in Education or related field.

Expertise in special education in the elementary school setting is required.
